EPA’s New Method of Measuring 6PPD-Q
In December 2023, the EPA released Draft Method 1634—a step-by-step guide for researchers to accurately measure 6PPD-Q levels in surface water. This standardized method gives researchers, Tribes, and local governments a consistent way to assess how 6PPD-Q might be affecting local water sources. While it still needs final approval under the Clean Water Act, this is a big move toward better understanding and managing this widespread contaminant in stormwater runoff.
